This post is a bit late, but it is still June for a few hours, right?
Olivia celebrated her 12th birthday with... wait for it... a sleepover! Yes we had two sleepover parties exactly two weeks apart.
Olivia's theme was ART. Her Primary teacher came over to help the girls make beaded bracelets, and then they painted wooden boxes to keep them in. The bracelets were so pretty and the girls got pretty creative with their painting. Gnomeo and Juliet was the evening's entertainment. The next morning the girls did some sidewalk chalk. It was a great party and great group of girls.
So what new things does turning 12 open up? Babysitting for other people? Nope. We found out you need to be 13 to take the on post babysitting course and sit in other people's homes. A facebook page? Nope. Once again, the magic number is 13.
How about entering the Young Women's program at church and going to girls' camp? Yep! She LOVED it! Her nickname was Create-o. Couldn't stop talking about her adventures when she returned. I had to tell her after awhile that I was no longer able to follow her dialogue. She earned the Laman and Lemuel award for being the biggest complainer. (Think bugs and heat.) We were so proud! Ha. 12 is also the magic number for going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. Dave and I were happy we could both be a part of her first day visiting the LDS Temple in Nashville, TN. Looking at my daughter dressed in white ready to be baptized for someone who never got that chance while on the earth made me feel so proud and happy for the good girl that she is and for the good choices she is making.
